About

We are constantly creating: every breath, every thought, every decision, every step is an act of creation.  Relationships, ideas, emotions, projects, even reality come from the creative process contained within us.  There is a limitless store of information, possibility and action available in every part of the self – from our pinkies to our eyes.  For thousands of years, the call has come to us, “Know thyself.”  Yet what do we know?  What can we know?

The Creative Body Laboratory is the result of my thirty five years of study and research around this question. What does posture have to do with our emotional state?  How does our breathing affect our relationships?  Why do we curl our toes?  How is jaw pain related to the pelvis and the low back?  Can others sense the tension in our shoulders, and how do they interpet it?  What stops us from realizing our dreams?  These questions and many more have informed my investigation.

Each Creative Body Laboratory is a fusion of movement study, awareness practice and explorations in the fine and performing arts.  See the Workshops and Training page for themes.

Movement: Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons form the foundation of every Creative Body experience, with at least two lessons a day.  Other somatic disciplines are employed as appropriate, including Yoga, Aikido, Alba Emoting, meditation and the Delsarte Method.

Arts: All of the arts are represented.  In a non-competitive safe environment, students explore drawing, painting, writing, music, dance, theater, mime and sculpture as they relate to the theme of the workshop.  Exercises can range from drawing with the non-dominant hand to improvisational theater games to percussion workshops.

Research and Exploration: From cutting edge research in neuroplasticity, body language and biology to indepth explorations of ancient mythology and folklore, each workshop weaves together ancient and modern ideas surrounding the theme.

Guest Teachers: Specialists are often invited to teach segments of a laboratory – from percussion and photography teachers to certified Alba and Aikido instructors.
